WHICH DIRECTOR ARE YOU?

BEFORE YOU STEP ON SET, KNOW YOUR STYLE!
SEE IF YOU RECOGNIZE YOURSELF IN ONE OF THESE THREE TYPES OF DIRECTORS:

The Not Ready Director

aka The Underprepared Visionary

You’ve got passion—but not enough prep. You assumed you’d have time to figure things out in pre-production, but now your department heads and DP are asking questions you don’t have answers to. Lighting setups? Color palettes? Wardrobe direction? You’re still working on your shot list. If you’re scrambling to keep up with production meetings, this is your sign to take control and get ahead.

The Timid Director

aka The Quiet Creative

You’ve got the story, but lack the confidence to lead. You find yourself second-guessing your choices on set, intimidated by seasoned crew or vocal actors. You hesitate when it’s time to speak up, and it’s costing you time, clarity, and respect. If you’re tired of shrinking back from the director’s chair, it’s time to step forward with vision and presence.

The Burnt Out Director

aka The Overworked Perfectionist

You’ve planned every frame—but now your set is behind schedule, your crew is drained, and you’re losing the joy that brought you here. You’re juggling too many setups, doing too much alone, and snapping at actors out of frustration. If you’re always going into overtime and forgetting to breathe, it’s time to reset your rhythm and direct with a calm, creative flow.

Get Ready, Director

Film Crews love Directors who clearly articulate their vision.
They're expecting you to lead them well.
So, don't wait for pre-production to start prepping your film.
Start now!

THIS BOOK REVEALS:
'3 Secrets to How an Emmy TV Director & Marvel Director inspired their Cast & Crew'

You Think You're Ready to Direct...
But Are You Ready to Lead?

You might be thinking...

"I went to film school—I know this already."

"I've been on sets before.  I know how to direct."

"My crew will respect my title automatically."

"Once production starts, I'll have time to figure things out."

"They'll read the script and instantly see my vision."

But here's the truth...

Technical knowledge isn’t the same as leadership.

Your crew needs direction. Your cast needs clarity. And you need a plan.

Many film professionals can tell you stories of directors who had a great script but showed up to set disorganized, indecisive, or unable to inspire.

Their vision rocked, but their communication sucked.

Even the most talented directors fall short when they’re unprepared to lead.

That’s why Get Ready, Director exists—to help you:

Show up confident, not confused

Lead with clarity, not hesitation

Inspire collaboration, not chaos

Preparation creates competence. Competence creates confidence.

When the cameras roll, you won’t be scrambling to “get ready”—you’ll already be.

This book helps you get there.

So, Why Do You Need this Book?

Are you a first-time director feeling overwhelmed by the pressure of leading a film set?  Struggling to translate your script into a shootable plan—or wondering how to earn the trust of your cast & crew?

Or if you've already attended film school or have on-set experience as a Director, then great!  But let's face it, leading a crew is a totally different skill.

Filmmakers assume that just because their name is at the top of the call sheet as the Director, it gets them automatic respect. But if you show up unsure of yourself or constantly going into overtime from a lack of planning, you'll quickly see how fast your cast & crew loses respect for you.

Get Ready, Director is your must-have filmmaking guide, packed with real-world tips, mindset shifts, and behind-the-scenes strategies from industry pros, including tips learned from a Marvel and Emmy award-winning TV director.

Of course, great movies are made from the quality of the script and the Director's ability to bring it to life, however, the synergy on set with your cast & crew makes a huge difference.

Whether you're searching for best filmmaking books, how to be a better director, what directors need to know, or pre-production tips for first-time filmmakers—this book delivers.

Stop second-guessing and start directing, with clarity and purpose.  Download or order your copy of Get Ready, Director now...and show up ready to lead, inspire, and create your best work!

What You'll Learn

Here's a Sneak Peak of What You'll Be Getting Inside the Book!

CHAPTER 1:

The Director’s Mindset

  • Emotional intelligence isn’t optional—it’s your secret weapon to inspire your team.  Before you direct a film, you have to direct your mindset, first. Leadership is a calling, but it’s also a skill that can be learned. People absorb the energy you project—it directly impacts the flow of the entire team.
  • Confidence is contagious. Trust yourself. When you believe in what you’re creating, others will too. Forward movement is all that matters—even if things aren’t unfolding perfectly on set.
  • Don’t let thinking traps steal your time. Guard your creative mind fiercely—small distractions can grow into major setbacks. Procrastination is a thief of time that steals opportunities before you even start.

CHAPTER 3:

Break It Down:  Prepping Your Script for Shot Listing

  • Your script is your blueprint. Start breaking your script down into story and emotional beats for each sceneFocus first on what the characters feel to determine what the camera "must" capture.
  • You don’t need a fancy shot list at first. Start simple.  Plan your ‘must-have’ shots based on character-driven moments, not just coverage. Floor plans or overhead drawings with shot lists and camera moves, are golden!
  • Choosing visual elements. Choosing 2-3 visual elements like color and space early on can quietly shape how your audience feels through the entire film. Space—flat vs. deep—can silently express a character’s inner world without a word.

CHAPTER 4:

Inspire and Lead Your Cast & Crew

  • Leadership on set isn’t about barking orders—it’s about inspiring confidence through preparation and clarity. People crave strong leadership, especially in chaotic moments. The more prepared you are, the calmer you’ll lead.
  • Appreciation is currency on set.  Shout out your crew’s work. Celebrate small wins. It fuels momentum. Simple gestures—like a coffee truck or ice cream break—boost morale massively.  Momentum comes from praise and encouragement, not just tight schedules.
  • Lead with kindness, move with clarity and your cast and crew will rally behind you faster than you think. Set the tone early with gratitude and decisiveness—it makes the hard days easier. Stand tall, be direct, and also be kind—strength and kindness are not opposites.

CHAPTER 5:

Leading Tech Scouts Like an Emmy Award-Winning TV Director

  • Lead your tech scout like a bossshow up with a clear plan and collaborate to find smart solutions. Communicating character movement and shot areas gives departments critical staging information.
  • The Crew is watching You.  Tech scouts show the crew how you think, how you lead, and how you see the story. Tech scouts are where you align your vision with every department head, so show up ready to articulate your story beats—not just your equipment needs.
  • Tech scouts are where you solve problems before they happen. It’s your chance to be proactive, not reactive. Grips, gaffers, and camera teams are already scouting the best lighting and equipment spots while you walk through the space. Early feedback from department heads can save you hours of wasted time on set.
