So, Â You're Ready to Direct.
But, Are You Ready to Lead?
You've got the vision. You've got the script. Now, it's time to get ready.

“Satomi is brilliant. Right before I head to set, she helps me clear my mind, prioritize, and stay focused. She keeps directors calm, organized, and steering the ship when things get hectic.”

“Working with Satomi has been career changing. She anticipates every need, keeps production running smoothly, and helps me direct with total clarity and confidence.”

“Not many ADs could’ve handled that shoot—but Satomi didn’t just handle it, she saved it. She led with excellence and heart, keeping morale high and everyone safe under pressure.”
So, I hear you're ready to direct. But, are you ready to lead? Â I've heard many directors say...
"I would think so, I went to film school—"
"Respect comes with the title—everyone knows I'm the director."
"I'll figure things out once we're in pre-production."
"I'll cast the best actors, who will nail every scene."
"The script speaks for itself—my crew will get my vision."
But the truth is, technical knowledge is not the same as leadership.
Many directors are talented and passionate filmmakers...
But when it comes to leading others or making sure their vision is clear - their communication falls flat.
I want to help you to show up confident and ready to inspire your cast & crew toward your vision. Confidence comes from preparation.
I want you to be like the Locker Room Coach, a Marvel Director that I worked with earlier on in his career, who inspired everyone on the set of a HBO short film.
From Set PA's to every department head—he made everyone feel needed, as if their job was very important to the making of his film.
The whole crew went over and beyond with doing their absolute best.
Or—maybe you can be like the Emmy award-winning TV Director that I shadowed on an episode, who commanded her set like an Army General.
She was prepared, her plans were clear, and the crew loved her. They even said that she "was a breath of fresh air." Simply, because she moved fast.
Her speed came from knowing exactly what she wanted and how to get it. No one on set needed to guess, and neither was she timid about her decisions. But, she remained approachable enough to welcome feedback.
Whichever leadership style you decide to emulate, just don't be like the Corner Mouse Director, who showed up timid and unorganized to set.
After all the hard work you've done, you deserve the absolute best.
You deserve the best crew, the best actors.
And you deserve the best final cut.
But before getting to that. I want you to be a good steward of all the hard work it took you to get here.
The hard work it took to write and/or plan to direct the script.
The hard work it took to crowd fund your vision, or after all of the outreaching you've done to find investors.
